A.B.C's Educational Programming for Children
"This spring, several elementary classes were fortunate to have Eliese Watson present at our school. We enjoyed her informative slideshow presentation and interactive approach with the children. In particular, my kindergarten students were thrilled to have her visit our classroom afterwards and take time to affirm what they had learned about bees. It was evident that their knowledge base had grown as had their positive attitude towards these 'little creatures'. In fact, they were now encouraging their parents to take a more active role in protecting these valuable insects. I would not hesitate to invite Eliese back again to our school again, it was a pleasure having her."

Are you looking for an exciting way to share the insect world with your students? A.B.C offers educators like yourself the opportunity to invite a "real-life beekeeper" in to your classroom capable of sharing information on honeybees, bumblebees, and solitary bees. With exciting games and great photos and props, A.B.C offers an excellent presentation which will amplify your educational programs. With specimen cases, honey samples, and photo albums with pictures of beekeepers and honeybees working, your students will all be proclaiming "I want to be a beekeeper!"
A.B.C has looked closely at the CBE's expectations on both the Needs of Plants and Animals and Lifecycles curriculum to offer a simple but explorative look in to the world of bees. The presentations can cover any of the following topics:
- Pollen and pollination
- What a pollinator is and what they have in common
- Role of the pollinator in the food web
- Lifecycles of bumblebees, solitary bees, and honeybees and how to identify/differntiate between them
- Primary presentation on honeybee lifecycles (from egg to mature bee, what are their tasks and responsibilities to the hive?)
- Seasonal behaviours
- Environmental impacts on honeybees: monocropping, pesticides and herbicides, disease
- How the children can help the bees survive
Is there something special that you would like us to cover? A.B.C is happy to alter and customize the presentations content based on your classrooms needs. If there is a particular topic or concern your students have decided to focus on, please let us know and we will do our best to fulfill your students needs. Contact us and we can schedule a classroom visit today!
Are you or your colleagues developing a garden for students on campus? We are fully capable of coming and sharing information about native solitary bees to you and your peers. We can also offer suggestions about how to integrate the seemingly stingless bees in to a living curriculum on site. We can share with you methods of raising mason bees from cocoons, building artificial nesting sites, and integrating the bees in to your classroom programming. If you are interested, contact us! We are happy to facilitate.
